In this temporary urban art installation, which we developed for the Intercultural Week, the market square becomes a colorful canvas that reflects the diversity of the city’s population. 139 portraits of residents, covering a range of the generation from young to old, are printed on posters and placed in an artfully designed pattern on the stone slabs of the market square. The different colored backgrounds of the portraits symbolize the diversity and different cultural backgrounds of the residents.
Our installation invites visitors to reflect on the similarities and differences of the population and to experience themselves as part of this vibrant community. The market square, considered across cultures as a central place of encounter and exchange where values of acceptance and solidarity are highlighted, was specifically chosen as the location for this urban art installation.
